Lauralyn 5 Months Old

Weight: 14 lbs.
Diaper: 2
Clothes: 3-6 and 6 month
Shoes: 0

Our baby is 5 months old!  A few new things happened this month.  The biggest thing is that she started eating some baby oatmeal.  We started her out at around 4 and half months, but it wasn't until she was closer to 5 months that she really started getting into it.  She is a messy eater and likes to blow raspberries with food in her mouth.  She is only eating one solid feeding, and it is at dinner time.

I can't remember if she was doing this at 4 months or not, but she is rolling everywhere!  I can put her on one side of the living room, walk away, and she is on the other side of the living room when I get back.  She mostly sleeps on her tummy now because she rolls over after I put her down on her back and gets comfy on her tummy.  She also pulls her legs up under her and scoots to get to things.  This is crazy to us because Lawson never did this, at least not at this age.

She still smiles and belly laughs a lot and her sleeping is getting better.  She even occasionally sleeps through the night!!  I get sad every time I realize how big she is getting.  Most likely she is our last baby, so each new milestone is bittersweet.  She is the perfect little addition to our family.  I can hardly believe that next month she will be half a year old!

3 Months Old

Weight:  Over 11 lbs
Clothes: 0-3 month
Diaper: 1
Shoes: 0

Still our little smiley girl!  And still not our great sleeper!  The biggest change this month is that we moved her to her crib.  It actually wasn't as hard as I thought it would be on me, I think I just knew it was time.  I've tried everything in terms of her schedule for bed time, and have found what works best for now.  She gets a bath at around 8 or 8:30 and then between 8:30 and 9 I nurse her and put her to bed.  She does great until about 2:00 am.  She gets up, and since I'm up I go ahead and nurse her.  Sometimes she goes back to sleep, sometimes it takes an hour to get her settled.  To say I'm exhausted at 5:00 am when my alarm goes off is an understatement!  And actually she sometimes wakes up at around 4:30, so that is usually when my day starts.  Oh well, I told Jarrett the line "I can sleep when I'm dead" keeps running through my head!  I'm hoping she will get used to be in the crib soon and will start sleeping better.

I will say that her smiles and cuddles make all the lack of sleep worth it!  She is very happy and content and for the most part an easy baby.  She rolled from her tummy to her back the day after she turned 3 months, which is crazy because I never put her on her tummy, I just happened to do it that night.

I've started putting her on a blanket on the floor more, and Lawson loves to lay beside her.  He has also gotten big enough to hold her for a few seconds and he ALWAYS likes to give her kisses.  He has gotten really good at trying to take care of her and putting her pacifier back in.

Here is a little comparison of her and Lawson at about the same age.

Lawson's First Day of "School"

Lawson started to pre-school this week at St. Luke's.  His first day was a success!  My biggest concern was nap time because he never sleeps unless he is in a crib/pack and play, but he did great on his napmat and slept for 2 hours.  He will be going to pre-school MWF and then will be going to the babysitter with Lauralyn the other days of the week.

Lawson's First Haircut

Lawson had his first haircut today.  It wasn't really a planned thing, but Papaw had picked Lawson and I up to run some errands and go out to eat and suggested we take him to get a haircut.  So, we did it.  We've been putting it off for far too long.  There have been numerous comments about our little girl!  His hair was so long and curly and reached all the way down his back when it was wet.

Before:

When we pulled into Sports Clips Lawson had fallen sound asleep in his carseat.  We debated whether or not to wake him up, but Dad and I decided to go ahead and go for it.  So I woke him up, and we headed in.  Thankfully there was no wait, and the lady cutting his hair has done tons of first haircuts.  He wouldn't sit by himself, so he sat in my lap.  He was a little upset at first, but I grabbed a couple of dum-dums before I left the house thinking that might distract him if he was upset and it worked!  He ate his dum-dum, and she cut away his precious curls.  I was so focused on keeping him happy that I didn't have a chance to get emotional about it.  He did great and looks like such a big boy now.  I miss the curls, but it was definitley time.

Mobile Baby

Lawson has started army crawling! It seemed to have happened over night. One day he couldn't get his chunky little legs up and then the next day he was ready to go! It is adorable and still a modified crawl with lots of belly scooting. We have had the best time playing with him on the floor and trying to get video of him. He can move pretty fast on his belly!

You've got to love those milestones!

A couple of days ago I realized that Lawson was really close to rolling from his back to his stomach. He would roll onto his side and almost get himself kicked over.

So last night I laid him on a blanket on the floor of his bedroom while I got his bath ready. When I peaked into his room, he was on his side so I yelled at Jarrett to get out of the bathroom and come watch. We watched for a good while and had almost given up when Lawson finally kicked that leg over and was laying on his stomach. We were excited to get to see him do it for the first time. It is so fun to watch your child grow and learn new things.

Here is the after picture:
And here is another picture of him sucking his thumb, he still loves it!
